Third project meeting

Kaunas - Lithuania

6 - 13 may 2007

Sunday 6 - Monday 7
All the teachers arrive and join the group. We can meet all together on Monday 7; as the school is closed for a public festival, we meet at the hotel and have dinner together.
There are teachers from
- Iqbal Masih school, Rome : Simonetta Parenti, Luca Vitali, Paola Arduini
- L.P. Boon , Erembodegem, : Martine Coppens and Cindy Bram
- Zakladni Skola in Zlin : Vladimira Zakrevskà and Eva Praskovà
The coordinator school, Nasa Skola from Ruzomberok, Slovakia, is not present at this meeting: they wrote an e-mail the day before explaining that for health problems they are not taking part to the Project meeting.
In the afternoon guided tour to old Kaunas, monuments and to an old mansion. The guide and the teachers explain Kaunas and Lithuania History.

Tuesday 8
We arrive at Lozaritis school and we are welcomed by the principal Klavdja Kovalenkina. A folk group formed by teachers and students of various ages welcomes the group with traditional songs; they wear traditional clothes
We visit the school : classrooms, labs, features
The group sits in a classroom where is going on an English lesson with a second form. We can see how the lesson is run and how the children answer and interact.

Wednesday 9
The group goes by a shuttle to visit Trakaj and its castle.

 

 

Thursday 10
We meet at the school in the computer lab. Luca Vitali, Italian teacher, shows its presentation about English resources on internet and explains how they can be used in the English classes.
Debate among teachers about IT resources. Teacher of Lozioraities Vida Sukaitiene says she usually uses computers in English lessons especially with English games. We discuss and agree on:
- it's better to have computer in the classrooms as a normal tool of working
- working with computers children are encouraged to use them at home too and parents can help also bringing to school old computers.
We have a short brainstorming on what points should be discussed during this meeting :
- Project organization
- Partnership and coordination
- Evaluation of the activity so far, reading the decisions taken in Rome meeting
- Which activities were carried on in our schools
- What to do with final report that should be written by Project coordinators, shared and sent to our National Agencies
- Next meeting and Teachers' exchange
- Evaluation of teachers' exchanges.
- Ice age activity

We pass to present and evaluate the activities carried on so far about Ice Age and CLIL, as we planned during last meeting.

Activities in the schools
Belgium
-After Rome, meeting with teachers to share all materials. They organize the whole school year about Ice age.
They prepared different games :

A game Colour Lotto with flash cards with Ice Age characters for 2,5 - 3 years old children. It's aimed to teach colours and names

- 4 5 years old pupils made a plasticine model of mammoth
Then the teacher presents a jig saw with characters and another board game with numbers and characters

5 - 6 pupils: game Looking for differences
Print the names with potatoes.

6- 7 pupils: Numbers and writing names
Story time with ace age

The children watched the movie in English in parts, It was the first time they' ve seen it.

8-9 years old
Domino
Game : families with characters.

In L. P. Boon school teachers shared the materials with all classes and material is now available for all the school children.

After that, teachers prepared an evaluation after each lesson

Then the group discuss on how we can collect all the material we have in our schools and we can share it. Luca Vitali suggests some ideas on publishing material on internet. Martine Coppens will try to organize a paper publishing in Belgium.

Lithuania


All students from 4th to 6th classes watched film then they had to write a short story.
After that we had some lessons about water cycle (using Simonetta's material). We prepared tests about meanings
They wrote after another paragraph
Older students worked also on internet making researches about the movie. After they made drawings.

Czech Republic

Vladimira has sent material
3rd class cooperating with class teacher
They did not watch the whole film, only 2 or 3 parts. They worked with books
Finding names of animals (crosswords)
Pictures about Ice age is going to be sent
The pupils in 9th class are working on powerpoint presentation during classes about English and computer.

Italy

In Iqbal Masih school were involved classes from 3rd to 5th grade.
After the movie pupils were involved in choosing evaluation to be done.
Starting with brain storming helped to involve children's different skill. During the activity teachers involved different subjects: music, drawings, science. In the whole project children were actively involved step by step.
In some classes film was watched in English
In other classes the movie in Italian to compare the results in different situation to experiment differences.

Activities:
-describing characters
- internet researches about animals by pupils
- comparing point of view of different characters.
- The job is not finishing is going to go on next years.

Discussion about what other materials we are going to prepare in this school year.
Luca proposes to realize quizzes about Ice age using Quiz faber programme to publish them on web site; after that pupils of all the schools can play and compare their results.

After the meeting the BELL group join students and teachers of the school in the theatre, where there's a ceremony, with a show, for the last day of school of the older students.

 

 

 

 

 

Friday 10

Meeting of the group to discuss other points: evaluation of the project and final report of the year. We discuss the situation, as the teachers of coordinator school seem to have problem in carrying on their work.

After lunch in the school canteen, we go to visit Kaunas and a museum.
